| | Reason why I disagree with a V8 BMW M3 and just about any Mercedes-Benz and Audi in existence at the moment:
2009/2010 Porsche 911 Carrera S: - 3.8L Flat-6 (horizontally opposed 6), direct-injected, high revving - 385bhp, 310lb-ft @ 4400 rev/min, 12.5:1 compression - 0 to 60 time: 4.5 sec (advertised) - Curb Weight: 3131 lbs - Gas Mileage: 17 city, 25 highway
2009/2010 BMW M3: - 4.0L 90 degree V8, 6 individual throttle bodies, high revving - 414bhp @ 8300 rev/min, 295lb-ft @ 3900 rev/min, 12.0:1 compression - 0 to 60 time: 4.7 sec (advertised) - Curb Weight: 3704 lbs - Gas Mileage: 14 city, 20 highway
Notice how the Porsche is both faster and more fuel efficient. Secret? Nope. Check out the curb weights. The lighter car, obviously, is more efficient. Automakers should invest on cutting weight big time instead of making a larger engine and adding weight. There's no reason that the M3 with a carbon-fiber roof, V8 that's lighter than the previous inline-6, and a small profile should weigh 3704 lbs. I have my money on the Porsche as a stronger performer on the track as well. It has a lot less momentum to shift around in hard cornering.
